Big Dance/Big Craft/Big Fun

On Sunday 11 July big fun was had with dance and craft at the Siobhan Davies Studios. As part of Big Dance, movement was transformed into sculpture - I'm not sure who was having more fun, the children or their parents, or Alison and I - neither of us could keep our hand off the coloured paper and glue!

Thank you also to the Ledbury Poetry Festival and Siobhan Davies for the opportunity to dance for poets!

Festival Co Commission!
2. Differences by Siobhan Davies Dance

Siobhan Davies writes, “As a choreographer I experience both the excitement and difficulties of organising my material. Last year I began to read more poetry and I enjoyed it for its’ own sake completely, but it also allowed me to think about the disciplines poets might use as creative strategies. I recognised some behaviour and questions that could be common to both a choreographer and a poet. For instance, how do we find the most economical and accurate written or movement language”. Differences will involve one silent piece of choreography co commissioned by The Ledbury Poetry Festival and Siobhan Davies Dance and existing works by several writers. The dance and poetry will remain distinct and by placing them in the same context we might start a series of conversations about choreography and the writing of poetry and about how artists shape and phrase a work to hold it together as well as propel it out to the audience.

news update April 2010

Oxidised silver ring 2010

Sarah is presently working in collaboration with Tracey Rowledge, artist and book binder. They have been commissioned by Siobhan Davies Dance to create a movement based installation piece to be shown in 2011 along with three other choreographer and artist collaborations. Check out Tracey at www.traceyrowledge.co.uk.

In March Sarah was awarded an Arts Council England grant to develop a new collection of jewellery. It will be based on the movement created during the collaboration between herself and Tracey. The project is called 'Whisk - from movement to object', and research will begin in July.

In the meantime she is working on a small series of siver jewellery based on the choreographic processes she used to create her role in 'Two Quartets' for Siobhan Davies in 2007.
